Finally back on the road and out of self induced storage. Been setting in the driveway for about 2 years.
I had gone to get 'er smogged 2018 and on the way blew out rear brake line. Limped to the smog station where it failed to pass miserably, high co2. Its always passed way above minumum? Driving home a rear tire totally disintegrated. Put on the spare (which was booted on the sidewall after puncturing on a tree root, (ok trail tire but not hi way.) Drove home with the flashers on about 5 mph and parked it.
No rear brakes, no tires and unable to license. kind of ignored for about a year. No idea on the smog so made getting tires silly. I did finally fix the brakes, replacing rear lines. Local mechanic said he could test and probably figure out why not smogging and I could fix, so after getting brakes working took jeep to him. After a couple of hours he calls and says jeep should pass, all numbers well below, ready to pick up.
At the garage asked what he found. Said 'nothing' , he couldnt figure out why it failed. Then he asked where I got smogged, telling him his eyes roll back in his head, says those "******".... I was aware business changed hands but his opinion is they dont know what they are doing. Hadnt gelled but indeed 2 other folks I know who had older vehicles also failed. Anyway tells me I need to find another smog station.
I did and jeep passed with flying colors....Made a trip to DMV got the lasped tags paid up. FYI; I handt non-opted when smog failed which I should have. So with the jeep licensed and drivable started looking at tires.
My MTRS are quite old, replacing all 5. Finally decided on Patagonia M/T Mile Star 35x12.50x15. Mostly for price, second is very good reviews. I dont imagine will compare to the old MTRs but gets the jeep on the road, hopefully work well on the trail. Center lugs I wish were more open but every one wants 'quiet' tires.
Pretty stoked thouhg jeep up again. Did go thru and fix quite a few round to its, aux fan control took a dump, York needs some attension etc. Suspension, bushings etc. Clean and repaint undercarrige. Just a lot of misc small stuff that didnt stop from trial use so got put off. Took a bunch of pics of the 'refreshed' jeep.
