Add an additional plugRecent moving and remounting of vice led to adding a face trim to face of work bench. As all of my electric plugs are on face of work bench makes access to the one where I solder kind of a pain. However its always been a pain. Mostly because its right where I sit, cord is draped across bench where your working. There used to be another plug but it got removed during original remodel. This recent vice remount and subsequent face trim brought it back to the forefront. Time to address.
Shows limited access to face plug, but also old power strip I was thinking of adding. I've always though about adding a power strip at this location. As it needs to be hard wired into a box-decided that if I would do that might as well wire in a receptacle-get a plug in strip. Looked at a lot of options but due to location wiring would need to be surface mounted.
Got tired of thinking about it, picked up a simple plug in strip. Well that was dumb. Cord still would be draped across bench-I wouldn't leaved it plugged in so would still be fiddling with plugging in to bench face plug. Really want something hardwired. Realized it would be easy to add a receptacle behind the old drill press on stub wall. I could either plug in the new power strip or hardwire the old strip to it.
Tapped existing plug, running some romex up behind 4x4 post and added a receptacle.
Cool! Now to mount the new power strip....unbelievably i spent quite a bit time trying to place the new strip. Was going to mount new strip to wall or above the new plug. Then it became very clear..Why? I swear sometimes once I start a project with a plan I cant see past it. But I finally saw use of the strip was pointless, I mean I can if needed but all I need is plug for iron rheostat and one for fan..
Just too funny. Anyway new plug. Next trip to hardware Ill probably pick up a duplex box, add another receptacle.
